How many miles is the horizon, when watching the sunset in the ocean?
When watchiing a sunset from the seashore how many miles is the horizon, curviture of the earth in the ocean
Here is a quick method to estimate the distance to the horizon.
Take the height of your eyes about sea level in feet (Say: 10 feet)
Multiply by 1.5 (1.5*10=15)
Take the square root (sqrt 15 = 3.9)
That is the distance to the horizon in miles. (3.9 miles)
