97 Ford T-Bird, Leaks Motor Oil?
I have noted that last time i changed motor oil, and weather temperature decreased. a leaking oil start to appear. every day in the morning, when i get ready to go to work, i turn ON my car engine so i can run it warm. but when i move my car out of the garage, drops and a half ounce of oil appears on the floor. it only happens when the engine is cold. i already change the oil and oil filter and remains the same. one important thing is that oil filter is mounted on a base with screws and probably this could be the root cause for a bad base gasket.
Pinpointing the source is the first objective. Have the engine cleaned - no high pressure wands, please, and park it over a sheet of cardboard or paper. As the oil accumulates, determine which side of the engine it's coming from, and trace the leak back to the source gasket. Dyes can be added to the oil that will glow under blacklight to show the trail, or talcum powder sprinkled on the engine to highlight it.
Once you have pinned down the specific gasket, tighten things up or replace it. On an 11 year old car, I suspect it will be the first of many to go bad.
Definitely make sure the crankcase breathing system is free to dump pressure out of the engine - a clogged breather will blow new gaskets forever as blowby from the cylinders has no relief until it overcomes the weakest link. The PVC system, breather hose, and vent to the air cleaner all need to be checked for free passage.
I hope it's not the rear main seal - if so, replace the transmission input gasket when you pull it, no sense going back in for that one later.
