Cubs Baseball
If the Cubs win the World Series, would that be good or bad for baseball?

I think it'll be bad since the White Sox and Red Sox won and now the longest drought won't be as historically long as the Cubs. And it's tough for me to imagine baseball without the Cubs curse and having no more curses/ winless streaks in baseball!

As others have said it would generate a lot of buzz for the Cubs. However, I don't know if it would last. A relative of mine told me he knew someone who was a Sox fan and once they won the World Series this person was very happy, but stopped following the team. As far as I know he's still a White Sox fan, but he isn't as interested anymore and doesn't have any expectations of the White Sox doing anything like that again anytime soon. This guy waited his entire lifetime to see the White Sox win the World Series and once that happened the interest and hope of the Sox doing it again subsided.

So for the Cubs I think it is a possibility that the "novelty" of losing would be gone for many fans. Oh, sure there will be fans for every game, but will there be as many? Will fans still want to go to the ballpark knowing that a preceding year's team was so much better than the current year's team? When the team starts playing poorly after this imaginary post Word Series will fans still be as devoted or will they compare them to the World Series winning team? After all they would have finally seen a winning Cubs team, would they still have the energy to cheer for a Cub's team that is slumping? Again, there will always be fans, but will same attendance numbers be there?

So to answer your question I guess it depends on why so many people go the Cubs game? Is it for the atmosphere, meaning they don't necessarily care about the game or is it for the love of cheering on the "Lovable Losers?" If the latter, then that could put an end to many fans attending. Once the Cubs become like any other team some fans may choose not to participate anymore.

Piniella fumes after Cubs' loss
No more waiting for the first eruption from Lou Piniella. The Cubs manager got angry after the 3-2 loss to Washington on Wednesday when his strategy during the eighth inning was questioned by a freelance reporter.
