Break Your Boredom With Creativity
Many people have a problem with keeping boredom away. And this is true, in spite of the fact that technology has brought us much more things to do in the way of entertainment. Never has there been so many things at our fingertips to enjoy and keep us busy. Yet we still get bored very easily and tired of things quickly. Our attention spans are shorter, and our appreciation for entertainment has dulled.
It is one thing to be bored and still have these toys and gadgets at your fingertips. It is a totally different situation when you find yourself doing without them, even if they are boring. At least if you have them, you can partake if you decide to, but if you can not even if you wanted, then it seems to be a deeper level of boredom. It is a feeling of being stuck, and not knowing what to do. I felt this when I moved into an apartment of my own.
I moved a little sooner than I had planned, and was only able to bring a few of the things I owned, and a few things my parents let me have. The rest was to be delivered by my brother with his truck in about four days. That left me with very little to do for amusement. I did manage to bring my Ibanez acoustic electric guitar with me, so plucking around on that was a little comforting.
I played around on it until it was boring, then put it down. I was soon staring at the walls, wondering what I could do. I did not want to go out and be talking with strangers since this was a new neighborhood for me. But I did remember I had my paint set in a box in the back room. So I spent some time drawing and painting, and soon my passion for that faded as well.
I had never felt so lost. I had no idea what to do to amuse myself. And to keep doing what I had already done, for four more days, over and over, really was a painful thought. Suddenly, I had a bright idea. I was going to create a fantasy for myself. I walked into the back room and found my brown boots and pulled them on. Then I went to the mirror in the bathroom and painted my face like a rock star. In no time at all I had a new face, ready to be photographed and grace an album cover.
I went back to the front room and grabbed my guitar, and pulled over the dyson all floors vacuum that was in the corner, and put it in front of my only chair. I sat in the chair, put my feet up on the vacuum, and began to play and sing like a hard rocker. I soon became lost in this act of creativity.
My brother made it four days later, and by that time, I had put together five fantastic new songs that ended up being big hits when I played them for my friends. I had discovered something during that time about being creative, and taking advantage of time alone by exploring that creativity. I accomplished more in those few days than I had in months and months when I had all that entertainment at my fingertips. And I was now the entertainment for other people through my songs.
