Steps of Anxiety Self Help
Coping with stress and worries when you suffer from an anxiety disorder can be a real nightmare. With medication working just as a temporary solution to stop anxiety attacks and in the condition of insufficient involvement in psychotherapy, anxiety self help becomes essential. The goal one should set is to stop worrying, learn how to relax and make some healthy lifestyle choices.
There is great relief in anxiety self help! If you learn how to self-soothe, you have made the main step towards reducing anxiety, and the methods used for the task rely on taste, smell, touch, hearing and vision. When you recognize possible symptoms of a panic attack you should immediately focus on positive sensory-based action. Listen to good music or to natural sounds such as waves breaking against the shore or birds singing; smell perfume, scented items or flowers, play with a pet or a child. Set your eyes and mind on a beautiful view!
Eating or cooking something delicious will also help! Treat yourself with a cup of tea or hot chocolate! Take a bubble bath or get a massage! Such anxiety self help methods can significantly contribute to reducing the intensity and the frequency of the panic attacks. Plus, the techniques taught in various therapeutic sessions such as yoga relaxation, breathing methods, positive thinking, neuro-linguistic programming should also be put into practice day after day.
You can also improve the way you cope with an anxiety disorder by increasing the self-awareness level. A large amount of the discomfort that you experience will disappear if you replace the anger with acceptance. Detachment may also work as an anxiety self help method if you have the mental power to judge your condition in terms as objective as possible. You don't label it good or bad, just rate it on a scale from 0 to 10 and see how it evolves up or down. An anxiety condition will not define who you are!
Put a stop to your fears! Replace your negative thoughts and the constant worries with positive thinking. If you find it difficult to be positive and content: watch the small things in nature, the beauty of the sky, the bliss of life and you'll make a small progress. Then, you can carry on with other anxiety self help methods once you get to keep your mind under control! Otherwise, fear will continue a vicious circle in which you attract the experience you are most scared of.
