Leeds is one of the largest urban subdivisions in England, it is currently ranked fourth. The regional city of Yorkshire is so beautiful and vibrant, it's hard not to feel like home. The diverse array of cultural activities caters to all residents and visitors alike. The multicultural nature of the city has helped the universities to become internationally acclaimed for higher education.
This city is proud to be one of fastest, economically growing cities in Europe. The growth can be found through a variety of sectors including financial, retail and legal. The regional employers are providing more job opportunities everyday. Over the next 10 years employment is to increase 45%. Now is considered the best time to live or go to school in Leeds, because of the growth. Not a bad place to be if you just graduated or looking for a new career.
Arts and culture surround this city from parks to museums. Don't worry about money, because these listed attractions are free. Next to the River Aire is the Kirkstall Abbey built in the 1100s by the Cistercian monks. This picturesque area is being fully restored the way it once was. Canal Gardens is a large rectangular pond filled with wildlife, with a cute cafe. Catch a ride on the Middleton Railway, which is the worlds oldest working railway that runs through Middleton Park and afterward check out some very old steam engines. The Henry Moore Institute contains three nice art galleries with a bridge that joins the beautiful Leeds City Art Gallery. This makes for a wonderful day with the family.
Over 1000 shops and markets are brimming at the city centre. There are 5 miles of shopping streets that are predominately pedestrian only, makes for a great shopping destination. Chefs love shopping at Kirkgate Market, it is the best place to purchase food, with over 800 traders of plain to exotic treasures. If a person is looking for beauty and fashion the Victoria Quarter is the answer. The Victoria Quartet is a combination of the top names in fashion and some of the finest Victorian architecture around which makes it a wonderful shopping experience.
Traveling around the city is fairly easy and free maps are offered within Leeds City Station. Most of the shops and attractions are within walking distance of each other within the city centre. Taxis can be found outside the station, there are plenty but a person might have a small wait on busy nights. Now in operation is a modern bus station with free bus service, a route runs through the centre of the city. For further traveling needs Leeds City Station offers regular trains all over the UK.
