Anyone have a Rodeshian Ridgeback breed?
I have a rodeshian ridgeback mix dog that is 3 and he is awesome but he's very hyper on a leash so I can't take him for walks. Also, he is so afraid of people he doesn't know. He runs or shakes and pees. We got him from a shelter but he was 8 weeks old so I can't imagine that made him like that. Anyone have the same problems?
I owned a wonderful ridgeback, and bred them for sometime. they are just very wary of people they are not familiar of, but great guardians of their family, esp. children.
the problem with walks, is that he's a hound. he needs to run!
find him an enclosed area where you can allow him to and work off energy, then walk him. drain his energy a bit, and he will not be so hyper.
also, take up obedience training, it will help.
he is three, but you had him since he was 8 weeks old?
hmmm. perhaps it may also have to do with trust. but try running him, exercising regularly, master the walk.
daily exercise, spending time with him will build up his trust in you. and obedience training.
*I miss my ridgeback. she died 6 years ago. there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her.
